Computer irritation.. Rant! - ATG Vintage Watches Forums -

You know my back ground, is in Tv ... I trained at one of the best TV schools, worked at some of the best Post Production Facilities in the World.... the tools of my trade were 'bespoke' computer systems, both closed box hardware and advanced software. We didn't use microsoft because it couldn't be trusted to work properly.... we were ahead of the game by miles........well that was over 10 years ago.... we did start using Macs for support but they were complicated and expensive.

So what have microsoft done since then?

Well undoubtably that without Microsoft and PC the Internet would not be what it is....we would not be casually emailing each other from work home and mobile... we would be still in the Stone Age.... I had to learn PC and microsoft stuff from scratch as I freelanced around the world... I had lived in a guilded cage were only the 'best' equipment was used but as I moved on I worked for smaller companies on smaller projects were ultra powerful systems that were easy to use but meant a myriad of memory tricks to use them well were not needed. I ended up embracing microsoft as they appeared ready to offer you solution after solution for the internet at reasonable prices.

However now I am approaching crytical mass.... I have 2 computers and a lap top... one PC has XP pro loaded... one has XP home loaded and the laptop has the dire Vista loaded. (oh yes and a cellular with Windows mobile loaded). With Mcaffee hastling me about security.... spam incoming from everywhere even on my blog... I fear that I have just had enough!

When I was an editor and the system needed upgrading I handed it over to an engineer, who would load it then brief me on any changes, easy right? Well PC are now getting YOU to do the loading, to waste hours and hours, reloading software, making wireless systems work, etc... why are we doing all this crap?

I can see a Mac on the horizon, not because they look cool, I honestly couldn't care less... it's because I spend way too much time messing about with downloads and format issues. Sure I can just re install but why should I..? You don't buy a car then after a year when the engine stops working have BMW send over a new engine for you to plumb in yourself do you...?I get emails constantly telling me I need to do things... and I just don't like it......these emails tell you what you should be doing? Should be doing....? Your car doesn't tell you that if you want that electric window to rise smoother then you need to stop off at the garrage because they will have the latest button for you......???

All this crap is irritating me to the Max - In fact it's making me yearn for the old days amazingly!
